The Iveco LMV for Terence Hill

The Italian actor-director Terence Hill, best known as Mario Girotti for his films with Bud Spencer and, over the last decade, for the television series Don Matteo, is at the wheel of an LMV in a new story.

He is, in fact, currently working in the Alta Val Pusteria in South Tyrol, on the new television series "Un passo dal cielo” (One step from Heaven), starring Terence Hill and Katia Ricciarelli, in which the popular Venetian actor, deprived of his habit, takes on the role of a commander in the Forestry Corps. A lonely man, a bit 'rough’, a former mountain climber who, during the twelve episodes of the series, halfway between thriller and comedy, helps a young policeman to unmask the perpetrators of the crimes committed in the area.

To accompany Terence Hill in his adventures in the magical scenery of the Dolomites is the LMV that Iveco has made available for the production.

The choice was certainly based on the high mobility characteristics and the  outstanding off-road performance - the vehicle can scale gradients of 60%, wade watercourses up to five feet deep and travel on-road at speeds of up to 130 km/hr. - without forgetting that the factory where the vehicle is designed and assembled by Iveco Defence Vehicles is located in Bolzano, known as the gateway to the South Tyrol.

The Light Multirole Vehicle (LMV), flag-ship of the Iveco production centre in Bolzano, is based on many aspects of sophisticated technology whose strengths are the excellent characteristics of mobility and high occupant safety under extreme off-road conditions.

The vehicle is equipped with a common rail diesel engine with a power of 190 hp, connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission with hydrodynamic torque converter and a two-speed transfer case installed with the rear axle differential. Braking is by air over hydraulic disc brakes on all wheels. Independent front and rear suspension, axle weight distribution and optimised front / rear drive torque distribution ensure class leading off-road mobility for this vehicle.

The vehicle concept is modular: features may be added depending on customer needs so adapting it for its many different uses, namely passenger, pickup, ambulance, to name but a few. The LMV has high reliability combined with an economic maintenance regime, so reducing the logistical support and the operational management costs required.
