New IVECO Daily arrives with enhanced safety, revised interior and more
IVECO has launched its Daily 4x2 van and cab chassis range, offering Australian and New Zealand buyers more active and passive safety features, a revised interior that increases usability and aesthetics, along with emission reductions, while maintaining the productivity and reliability that the range is known for.
Key highlights of the new range include:
- New radar systems for Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)
- Introduction of IVECO Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) including Rear Cross Traffic Braking and Moving Off Information System (MOIS)
- Chassis-integrated 'crash box' that reduces force of impact in a frontal collision
- Enhanced, full Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) 10.25" (26 cm) instrument cluster
- Transition to more stringent 'Step E' Euro 6 emission control
- Adaptive suspension (on airbag option), which adjusts depending on payload and road conditions
Greater safety
The Daily range has always placed a high emphasis on the safety of occupants and other road users - the latest models elevate the offering with new active and passive technologies.
A notable advancement in the latest release is the introduction of new front and rear short-range radars. This equipment enables rear cross traffic alert and braking, along with pedestrian detection capabilities at both the front and rear of the vehicles. It also detects vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists in other difficult to see areas to the front of the cabin, helping reduce the chance of a collision when driving off in busy urban conditions or when turning at intersections.
Also new to the range is blind spot warning and door open warning.
When it comes to passive safety, the new Daily introduces a front 'crash box' which acts as an additional crumple area, absorbing force during frontal collision. The Daily's tough C-section steel chassis has also been bolstered in the latest models, producing added rigidity in event of lateral impact.
This new equipment complements the Daily's existing safety content that includes four SRS airbags, front and rear disc brakes with ABS, 'ESP9' (IVECO's suite of electronic stability technologies), Lane Departure Warning, Advanced Emergency Braking System and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Additional safety equipment including full LED headlights, Traffic Jam Assist and Advanced Lane Centering is available as part of the 'Premium' option pack (see Option Pack section on page 6 below).
Powerful, lower emission engines
While the IVECO Daily range has met stringent Euro 6 emissions standards since 2015 - years ahead of most competitors - the new range further lifts performance, transitioning from 'Step D' to 'Step E', which lowers nitrogen oxides particularly at cold start and across a range of real-world operating conditions.
To meet the measure, IVECO engineers have revised the Daily's emission control system, designing a standalone Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and separate Selective Catalytic Reduction (on filter), while introducing a secondary AdBlue injector.
Although emission performance is heightened, the engines maintain their generous output.
The entry level 180EVID engine is a 4-cylinder, 3.0L diesel unit with Variable Geometry Turbine (VGT) that produces 132kW (180hp) of power, and torque of 430Nm from a low 1,500rpm. Owners wanting more power can select the 210EVID, another 3.0L engine but with Electronically controlled Variable Geometry Turbine (e-VGT), which produces 155kW (210hp) and 470Nm of torque, also from a low 1,500rpm.
In Daily 50C single cab and Daily 50C vans, the 180EVID is the standard engine although owners can select the 210EVID as a cost option. In 50C crew cab variants and all 70C cab chassis and van variants, the 210EVID is standard.
Exclusively matched to all engines is IVECO's 8-speed Hi-Matic, fully automatic transmission. This transmission features ultra-fast gear changes and a self-adaptive shift strategy, resulting in confident gear selection. It's also equipped with 'Eco' and 'Power' modes, allowing the driver to select a mode to best suit the payload, road and traffic conditions.
Broad model range
The latest Daily range provides a strong selection of models across both van and cab chassis, making the vehicles ideal for a myriad of applications including pick-up and delivery work, refrigerated transport, as trade or service vehicles, for specialised freight and for motorhome platforms.
Van
The van line-up offers three principal models, offering payloads ranging from 1,741kg to 3,953kg.
The 42S has a GVM of 4,250kg and GCM of 7,750kg; the 50C with its 4,495kg GVM and 7,995kg GCM (light truck licence 5,200kg GVM / 8,700kg GCM also available) and the 70C with its 7,000kg GVM and 10,500kg GCM.
The 42S comes in both 3,520mm and 4,100mm wheelbase options and in volume capacities of 12m3 and 16m3 and with a H2 (1900mm) roof height.
The larger 50C van is also available in either 3,520mm or 4,100mm wheelbase but provides additional volume options: 12m3, 16m3, 18m3 or a market-leading 19.6m3, while two roof heights are on offer, H2 and H3 (2100mm).
For buyers needing to shift both volumetric and high mass loads, the 70C is available exclusively on the 4,100mm wheelbase, in volumes of either 18m3 or 19.6m3 and with H3 roof height. The Daily 70C is the only van available in Australia and New Zealand with volume of 19.6m3 and GVM of 7,000kg.
Cab chassis
Options are also abundant within the cab chassis line-up, across the 50C and 70C.
50C single and crew cab models are available with 4,495kg GVM / 7,995kg GCM or with optional light truck licence 5,200kg and 8,700kg respectively.
For single cab, available wheelbases are 3,450mm, 3,750mm, 4,350mm and 4,750mm, while for crew cab, buyers can select from 3,450mm, 3,750mm or 4,350mm.
In the 70C single and dual cab ranges, the GVM and GCM is 7200kg and 10,500kg. Buyers can also choose to de-rate this model to a passenger car licence 4,495kg GVM / 7,995kg GCM, giving up some payload if not required for the application, while maintaining some of the 70C's other benefits, including more robust chassis and suspension, and larger brakes.
Available wheelbases are 3,750mm, 4,350mm and 4,750mm for single cab and 3,750mm and 4,350mm for dual cab. Depending on the model, payloads range from 2,305kg to 4,755kg (as a bare cab chassis; final payload will vary depending on the body fitted).
Braked towing capacity across the Daily van and cab chassis ranges is 3,500kg.
Restyled interior with more functionality
The latest Daily range largely maintains the sleek and purposeful exterior appearance of its predecessor but introduces a revised three-piece front bumper with integrated anti-slip step that allows easier access to the front windscreen area, while accommodating the new frontal radar system. Also new are slightly larger, directional fog lamps (Business pack only - see Option Pack section).
Inside the cabin, the changes are much more noticeable, led by a redesigned 10.25" (26cm) TFT instrument cluster display that introduces a new frame design, larger font, three configurable graphic layouts and new ADAS functionality visualisation.
There's also an optional new 10" infotainment system (Business Pack only) that replaces the previous 7" unit which remains standard fitment across the range. The new infotainment system features wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, integrated voice assistant, a climate adjustment page, TomTom Navigation, a reversing camera and easy vehicle setting management.
Other benefits of the new interior include a higher quality, single piece, anti-glare upper dash with standard phone and tablet holders, more powerful (15W) wireless charging (Business Pack), a new USB module (including type C) and a new, more aesthetic gear selector.
A suspended driver's seat is also standard on all models.
Application-focused
The Daily range offers buyers several specification options not commonly available in many competing brands, these are features designed to increase productivity and efficiency in work cycles.
Available on selected models is a rear differential lock, which is ideal for operators such as tradespeople or road maintenance crews who work on slippery sites and surfaces, or on wet grassed areas in the case of parks and recreation crews and similar.
Another option across the range is rear Air-Po, ECAS (Electronically controlled Air Suspension) with dynamic and adjustable front and rear shock absorbers, which provide a more supple ride, giving operators who may be involved in sensitive freight movements including electronics, medical and commercial diagnostics equipment and the like, with smoother and safer transport.
ECAS also comes into its own in the recreation space, giving Daily-based motorhome owners a more compliant, car-like drive and the ability to lower the chassis for easier ingress and egress.
For drivers engaged in pick-up and delivery work who are frequently in and out of the vehicle, the new Daily also offers a 'door to door' function that unlocks the vehicle when the driver is near and allows the vehicle to start just by pressing the brake pedal. The Daily will also turn off when the driver leaves the vehicle.
Additionally, for vehicles that may need to stay running during deliveries to power refrigerator bodies and the like, Daily has an optional 'run lock' function allowing the engine to stay on while the vehicle is locked and the driver is momentarily away.
Option packs
The Daily range is available in two option packs, 'Premium' and 'Business', allowing owners to customise their vehicles to better suit their application. They can also combine both the Premium and Business packs if they wish.
Premium includes auto high beam, auto wiper and auto headlights, LED headlights, leather steering wheel, wireless charger, Advanced Lane Centring (automatically adjust steering to ensure the vehicle stays centred in its lane), Adaptive Cruise Control Stop and Go, ePark brake (standard on 42S van, a model well suited to pick-up and delivery) to free up cabin space and Traffic Jam Assist. Traffic Jam Assist adjusts the vehicle's speed automatically based on the traffic in front - in stop and start traffic, the vehicle will come to a complete stop as needed, before moving off again once traffic begins to flow.
Business includes a 100l fuel tank (70l is standard), 10" multimedia system with wireless connectivity and navigation, USB charging module for driver and passenger, passenger bench seat with table, driver's suspended and heated seat (suspended is standard), padded memory foam head rests, rear cab wall interior trim panel, automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, fog lights, chrome grill and ePark brake.
Warranties and maintenance
The new IVECO Daily 4x2 van and cab chassis range is backed by a standard 6-Year / 250,000km warranty which can be extended to up to 6-Years / 600,000km at extra cost for owners wanting additional peace of mind.
IVECO also offers three optional maintenance and repair package options across the range, 'ServiceBond', 'Friction' and 'EasyRoad', which are available for up to 6-Year / 600,000km from vehicle purchase, providing operators with fixed maintenance costs for better budgetary control.
Comments from IVECO Trucks Australia Managing Director, Glen Dyer
"The latest IVECO Daily range evolves the product line-up to deliver notable improvements for both fleet and private buyers.
The van models are already a popular choice among buyers, particularly in demanding, high payload applications. Tough truck-like underpinnings including a full-length steel C-Section chassis and rear wheel drive configuration, allows generous payloads while offering a structurally superior platform for complex interior fit outs. The latest range adds to this productivity and efficiency with greatly heightened safety features, advanced emission performance and a high level of interior appointment options that make long work days a little easier.
In the cab chassis range, the Daily has been the best-selling European light truck cab chassis for several years now, providing owners with a level of sophistication, safety and car-like driving experience that conventional cab-over competitors find hard to match. Latest generation models increase this appeal, whether used for work or as recreational platforms such as for motorhomes, where the Daily has a very strong following especially with premium manufacturers."
