Iveco Stralis LNG Receives European Award for Sustainability in Transport
Iveco has received the “Europäischen Transportpreis für Nachhaltigkeit”, a European transport award for sustainability, based upon the performance of its Stralis LNG (Liquified Natural Gas). The decision was made by jury including representatives from the transport industry, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the media, research and German state institutions.
The award is aimed at encouraging companies from the transport and commercial vehicle sector to work in a sustainable manner. It recognises that responsible and sustainable actions are fundamental to face environmental problems on a global scale, but that they can also contribute to profitability and competitiveness for companies.
Running on LNG fuel, the Stralis LNG (up to 330 hp) is not only extremely clean – exceeding Euro VI levels – it is also much quieter. This makes it well-suited for inner-city applications such as early morning supermarket deliveries. Plus, thanks to a range of approximately 750 km, it can also be used for long-distance routes. Together, the vehicle’s use of high quality fuel, low fuel consumption and the price of LNG makes a very strong economic proposition.
Stralis LNG also scores points on a macroeconomic level; in addition to its environmental compatibility, each kg of natural gas used for driving substitutes an equivalent amount of mineral oil and, therefore, tends to reduce pricing pressures.
Sustainability is about more than just the final product: the jury's evaluation criteria also required sustainable practices in the production process and protection of environmental resources and the environment.
Furthermore, for the third consecutive year, CNH Industrial (formerly Fiat Industrial) has been named Sector Leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World and Europe – one of the most important criteria for the assessment of sustainable investments.
