Versatility key to Selby’s Garage ordering UK’s first IVECO Stralis X-Way
Customer chooses IVECO’s latest heavy truck for its on and off-road missions nationwide
Basildon, June 5, 2018
Leicestershire haulier Selby’s Garage has become the first UK operator to take delivery of a new Stralis X-Way tipper. The truck’s low kerb weight gives it the best payload capacity on the market in its category.
Its arrival sees Selby’s 10-strong fleet become 100 per cent IVECO, joining current Stralis and Trakker models to add a new level of versatility, ideally suited to the company’s needs. The Stralis X-Way combines the fuel-efficiency and safety technologies from IVECO’s on-road trucks with the off-road robustness of its toughest vehicles.
Nick Selby, Director at Selby’s Garage, says: “This truck will mostly be carrying animal feed which is light – so we needed a large capacity body to ensure maximum efficiency. The Stralis X-Way really allows us to cash in on this, with its chassis designed to carry the biggest payloads in the sector.
“No other manufacturer could offer us such a versatile truck; it’s absolutely perfect for our mixed on/off-road missions, and it’s why we were the first in the queue to buy one!”
In addition to animal feed, the 32-tonne 8×4 tipper (AT340X48Z) with Aliweld bodywork will also be used to transport gravel, sand and stone from quarries to customers around England.
Selby’s chose the 11.1-litre IVECO Cursor 11 engine with 480 hp and 2,300 Nm of torque to give it the optimum blend of performance, as well as improved fuel economy thanks to the use of Smart EGR. This reduces fuel consumption on long distance missions, whilst retaining all the advantages of IVECO’s HI-SCR after-treatment system – a compact, lightweight technology for the best combination of efficiency and reliability.
The Stralis X-Way range’s modular construction allows vehicles to be specified to meet customer needs, be this on or off-road. This means operators can choose between three homologation setups: ON, ON+ and OFF, with all models benefitting from a new front and rear suspension, new rear axles, and disc brakes all-round for enhanced stopping power and lower maintenance costs.
Selby’s picked the ON+ version – which offers on-road homologation but with higher approach angles and ground clearance, plus improved bumper protection – for the best performance over the last mile.
This makes it perfect for duties which will include moving loads to and from farms and quarries, as well as travelling long distances by road. It is here where they will benefit from some of IVECO’s most advanced features, including the new best-in-class Hi-TRONIX 12-speed transmission and the new HI-MUX electrical system, which offers improved reliability and increased data management.
Other latest generation technologies on board the Stralis X-Way include IVECO’s HI-CRUISE integrated drive system, which uses GPS to enable predictive cruise control and gear-shifting for the most effective fuel-saving. This is the same proven technology used to reduce total cost of ownership in IVECO’s flagship Stralis XP tractor units.
Supplied by Stoke-on-Trent IVECO dealer Sherwood Truck and Van, the Stralis X-Way is expected to remain in service for 10 years, clocking up 120,000 km annually.
The customer specified this first Stralis X-Way with a medium roof sleeper cab for its predominantly regional missions – designed around the driver for great comfort, ergonomics and safety.
Selby’s Garage is a family-run business based in Woodhouse Eaves, near Loughborough, and has specialised in the distribution of aggregates for more than 50 years.
