Construction support firm Penfold Verrall builds up tipper fleet with six Iveco Trakker 8x4s

32-tonne Trakker tippers described as "tailor-made" for West Sussex company's off-road transport challenge

Basildon, March 21, 2016

Bulk excavation and muck shift specialist Penfold Verrall has expanded its fleet with a repeat order for six new Iveco Trakker Hi-Road 8x4 tippers, featuring the manufacturer's patented HI-SCR engine technology.

The six new arrivals join a mixed fleet of 30 commercial vehicles based near Horsham in West Sussex, servicing construction sites in Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.

Managing Director Darren Lynch says: "We've enjoyed a strong relationship with Iveco for many years, so when the time came to expand our fleet with a new generation of eight-wheelers, the Trakker was a natural choice.

"As well as being a very robust and powerful truck, our drivers love the Trakker for its sheer dependable, sure-footed nature – especially when coping with the muddy, rough roads the fleet typically hits when working on construction sites and landfill facilities. Of the different brands represented in our fleet, Iveco's tippers cope with these challenging conditions the best.

"The Trakker is tailor-made for the job, and thanks to the vehicles' low total cost of ownership, we're certainly going to get maximum performance and longevity out of our new tippers," Lynch adds.

Iveco dealer Northern Commercials finalised the deal, and the last of the six Trakkers (AD340T41K) is expected to arrive at Penfold Verrall in July. The 8x4s will remain part of the company's fleet for five years, working five days per week and clocking up approximately 60,000 miles each annually.

"The aftersales support we get from Iveco and Northern Commercials is fantastic," adds Lynch. "They're always on call for anything we need, and are a big help to our in-house engineers."

Bodybuilder Thompsons has been contracted to provide the tipper bodies for the entire order, with one Trakker also arriving equipped with a Palfinger Epsilon grab crane.

The new arrivals' power comes from Iveco's Cursor 13 engine, which produces 410 hp between 1,400 and 1,900 rev/min, and offers 2,100 Nm of torque between 1,000 and 1,400 rev/min. The vehicle also benefits from the proven EuroTronic automated gearbox, manufactured for Iveco by ZF.

The vehicles' HI-SCR system offers benefits including weight reduction, optimised fuel consumption and increased durability thanks to less complex, highly efficient technology, which meets the Euro VI emissions limits via a simplified after-treatment system, and without the use of exhaust gas recirculation.

Formed in 2005 with the merger of two family businesses – Penfold Public Works (Sussex) Ltd and G.W. Verrall & Sons – Penfold Verrall Ltd specialises in landfill restoration and recycling, and utilises its tipper fleet and extensive operated plant to cater for the requirements of construction sites within the Home Counties.
