Following an 80,000km six-month evaluation of a demonstrator, TNT UK has added 20 Euro VI Iveco Stralis Hi-Road 4x2 tractor units to its fleet, supplied through Iveco dealer Sherwood Truck & Van.
“Feedback on the demonstrator we trialled was very positive,” explains Steve Davis, National Engineering Manager at TNT UK. “In addition to its good fuel economy, we heard only good reports on maintenance and reliability, while drivers also praised the cab.”
Key to the Stralis' fuel efficiency is Iveco’s patented truck engine technology which uses a high-efficiency selective catalytic reduction system known as ‘HI-SCR’ to achieve the latest emissions limits via a simplified after-treatment system and without the use of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). Iveco says this offers advantages including weight reduction, lower exhaust temperatures and increased durability thanks to a less complex, yet highly-efficient, technology.
Finished in TNT’s traditional striking orange livery, the new Stralis AT440S42T/Ps will operate with dry freight box van trailers carrying freight and parcels from three locations in the south – Byfleet, Alton and Southampton – to other TNT hubs throughout the UK.
Each vehicle is powered by a highly efficient Iveco Cursor 11 engine which is capable of producing up to 420hp between 1,600 and 1,900 rev/min, and up to 1,900 Nm of torque between 900 and 1,550 rev/min. The driveline also includes Iveco’s proven 12-speed fully automated EuroTronic transmission.
TNT UK maintains its fleet in-house, and will fit genuine Iveco Origin spare parts supplied through the national dealer network. Its fleet also includes Eurocargos at 12 and 7.5 tonnes, and Daily models at 5.2 tonnes.
