Stralis HI-Way impresses at the pumps
Huntingdon-based Williams Transport has taken delivery of its first new Stralis Hi-Way after being impressed by how the latest Iveco range-topper stacked up both on paper, and when trialling the dealer’s demonstrator.
As well as its ultra fuel-efficient driveline, the new vehicle is fitted with Iveco’s Eco Pack, which incorporates an array of additional fuel-saving functions. These include an EcoSwitch, which uses vehicle weight information to minimise fuel consumption, an EcoFleet mode, which automatically adjusts vehicle loading to help fine-tune fuel economy and optimised drive axle ratios.
Despite being only weeks since Guest Truck & Van delivered the Stralis Hi-Way AS440S46TX/P into service, Andy Williams, Director, reports it is “performing very well” and “beating everything else in the fleet on fuel”.
The Stralis 6x2 twin-steer is operating on heavy-duty work with a moving floor trailer, transporting waste paper and compost primarily within the South East – including journeys on the M25 and into central London.
Williams says: “Bal Singh from Guest Truck & Van has been keeping us up-to-date on the latest Stralis developments. He brought one of the new Hi-Ways over to see us, we liked it, so we decided to give it a go.
“We have a dedicated driver for every vehicle we operate and the driver is very happy with the Stralis; I don’t think I’d get him out of it!”
Williams Transport operates a 65-strong fleet and plans to run the Stralis Hi-Way for six years, covering up to 140,000km a year. It will be serviced by the firm’s in-house workshop, using factory-spec Iveco Origin spare parts delivered on either a same or next-day basis by Guest Truck & Van in Cambridge.
Fitted with long-range fuel tanks, the new Iveco is powered by an EEV-rated FPT Industrial 10.3 litre Cursor 10 engine, which is capable of producing up to 460 hp between 1,550 and 2,100 rev/min, plus 2,100 Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,550 rev/min. It also features Iveco’s proven EuroTronic automated transmission as standard, which is manufactured for Iveco by ZF.
