Iveco and Gerard de Rooy victorious in the fourth stage of 2017 Dakar Rally

Petronas Team De Rooy Iveco leader and last Dakar champion, fought until the end to get his first win this year in the powerful #500 Powerstar.

World’s toughest rally raid crossed the border to Bolivia, adding a third country in only four days of racing. Stage 4 proved to be very hard for the crews, as they had to cope with more than 3.500 metres above sea level and difficulties in navigation through the sand dunes approaching Tupiza, where today’s special ended.

After a long timed section of 416 kilometres and almost five hours, Gerard de Rooy’s Iveco managed to overtake Airat Mardeev’s Kamaz in the last section to secure a victory in the fourth stage of 2017 Dakar Rally. This is a great sign that yesterday’s problems in the tyre system are now solved and the Dutchman is back in the fight for the leading places. In the overall classification he is now fifth, 14m15s adrift.

The Iveco Trakkers did a great job and managed to stay inside the Top 10 of the stage. Ton van Genugten took his #507 to 7th position after working hard in the road to Tupiza, gaining a lot of ground in the second part.

Wuf van Ginkel, the man who provides technical and mechanical assistance to his teammates in the Petronas Team De Rooy, ended today 25m32s behind, in 10th place.

Van Genugten and Van Ginkel are moving up in the overall classification. Ton makes it inside the Top 10, while Wuf advances to 16th position.

With another Iveco Powerstar, Federico Villagra managed to put himself into the Top 5 today and, due to loss of time of his main rivals, moved up to second place in overall classification.

On Friday, Dakar caravan will be moving north to Oruro, in Bolivia, with a timed stage of 438 kilometres for Trucks.
