Withdrawal end of life vehicles
The European Union issued Directive 2000/53/EC with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of end of life vehicles, promoting the prevention of waste production and contributing to the protection, preservation and improvement of the quality of 'environment. To this end, the Directive lays down certain criteria which the manufacturer must adapt within certain time limits.
In order to prevent the production of waste harmful to the environment the manufacturers in collaboration with manufacturers of materials and equipment, were involved in the qualification of materials used in the construction of new vehicles. The legislation requires that by 2015 vehicles for transporting goods or passengers (with a maximum of nine seats) with a total weight of 3.5 tonnes are recoverable at 95% of their average weight. In addition, the legislation on end of life vehicles - entered into force in Italy with Legislative Decree n. 20 of 24 June 2003 as the transposition of the European Directive (2000/53/EC) - requires that all manufacturers and importers of new vehicles at the end of life vehicles placed on the market by the same life, ensuring a respectful treatment of the environment.
