The
Iveco Daily 4x4 vehicles were driven by the Italian-based adventure
expedition team Taurinorum Travel Agency as part of the 'Daily4Africa'
road show, which was completed on 2 September 2013. As part of the tour,
the team spread the message of road safety during the 45 day, 11 000 km
long tour across South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe,
Botswana and Namibia.
The main objective of Daily4Africa
is to advocate the message of road safety and the practice of
responsible driving behaviour - themes which are a fundamental part of
Iveco’s core values. During its journey along the tip of the African
continent, the team drove the two Iveco Daily 4x4 vehicles, while
distributing more than 5 000 leaflets illustrating the principal rules
of safe driving on the road.
Taurinorum Travel Agency team member Ludovico de Maistre
states that the campaign was an overwhelming success. "During this epic
tour, we made a number of stops at regional Iveco dealerships, which
agreed to display the leaflets in their waiting rooms, in addition to
distributing them to the surrounding communities. What's more, the
locals were exceptionally accommodating to us, and were eager to learn
our message of road safety." The team visited over 25 dealerships
displaying the messages to over 300 customers in this time.
Iveco South Africa network and marketing manager Christophe Longuet
adds: "This initiative represents the international Iveco Group's
central belief that the product safety technologies applied to advanced
security systems are an essential tool for safeguarding the driver,
vehicle cargo and the lives of all those on the road."
According
to de Maistre, the Iveco Daily 4x4 vehicles performed exceptionally
well in some of the most hostile terrain, including; rocks, bushveld and
sand dunes. "Despite our initial concerns, both vehicles successfully
completed the journey without so much as a flat tyre. In addition, the
double cab design provided us with all round comfort, with ample space
for our luggage and equipment."
He continues: "The Iveco Daily 4x4 has proven to be reliable, cost-effective
and fuel efficient under challenging conditions, thereby making it
ideally-suited for off road enthusiasts, as well as for professional industries
such as game farms, firefighting, emergency services and mining."
Longuet
highlights the fact that the Iveco Daily 4x4 offers unrivalled
performance in all conditions with its three differential wheel locks,
permanent four-wheel drive and low range specific tyres for large
vehicle dimensions. "The six-speed gearbox is coupled with the central
transfer box featuring two reductions, which allow the vehicle 24 gears
in drive and four in reverse."
Having set off from
Johannesburg on 20 July 2013, the Taurinorum Travel Agency expedition
team completed its tour 45 days later in Cape Town on 2 September 2013.
"Southern Africa is an amazingly beautiful place. The wonderful scenery,
together with the warm and welcoming people, has made this a special
journey that the team will never forget," de Maistre concludes.
