The cab Active Space fulfills three objectives :
- improve
working conditions and safety , thanks to a driving position more
adaptable , to a dashboard fitted with a screen that displays the
operating parameters and running , to commands gathered under and above
the steering wheel , a driving comfort higher level ;
- facilitate life on board thanks to the flat floor, high roof and a new organization of the rest area ;
- be
modular , adapted to any type of use and evolve in a simple and
economic in case of change of mission or resale of the vehicle, thanks
to a concept of decentralized personalization .
In
mounting the cab , took into account the comments expressed by users
since the launch of the EuroTech and EuroStar ( 1992 and 1993) , market
trends and the evolution of the missions of the driver and his truck . After
a detailed market study , several solutions have been developed for the
driver's seat, the layout of the controls and the preparation of for
the rest area . These solutions were subjected to the following tests on a sample of users consists of hauliers and drivers . The final version has been so unanimously approved by transportation professionals . The creativity of the Iveco design was thus able to express themselves in a perfectly effective for the welfare of the driver.
The Active Space cab is available in one configuration : long high roof . Neither
too high nor too low , it adapts to all the missions of transport in
the short or long haul , with one or two drivers , thanks to the modular
design of the interior space . Personalization
can be postponed until the moment of delivery and responsible for a
fleet can even replace cheaply cabin environment as a function of the
new mission of a vehicle. The
two "secrets" of the system are , on the one hand , the presence
(standard) mounting points for all optional and , on the other hand, the
commercial management of the particular " kit " to provide customers
the same price construction , regardless of the fact that this is made in the factory or at the dealer immediately before delivery. The
decentralized personalization can also be used when the vehicle is sold
, in order to make it more responsive to the needs of the new owner.
With the Active Space cab , Iveco offers all customers the flat floor and the dining area with armchair and table . This "democratization of the living space " had already been applied in 1992 with the high roof of the EuroTech series .
Driver's Seat: ergonomics and comfort
The driving position has been designed to offer each driver his or her location.
The seat has air suspension , adjustable in length , height and angle. And ' velvet-covered and is provided with series of seating and lumbar support . Moreover, it is complete with heating, headrest and seat belt. The suspension can be deflated to facilitate the exit of the driver from the vehicle.
The
steering wheel is adjustable in height and is equipped with a high
joint which allows a considerable angular oscillation : 20 ° in total ,
with an extreme position of 40 ° from the vertical. Unclamping
to change the setting or move the steering wheel towards the windscreen
at the moment of descent from the vehicle , as well as the locking
takes place via a pneumatic control placed on the flatbed, operable with
the heel .
The
installation of the door panel has been carefully chosen : the arm
along the window welcomes electric window controls , as well as those of
defrost and the power setting of rear view mirrors. The
adjustment takes place by means of two buttons: one to select the
rearview mirror to move, with on-screen display of the dashboard , and
the other to move the mirror in four directions. The lower part of the side window was blinded to preserve the privacy of the driver. Two
storage compartments , the smallest of which is located right under the
hand of the driver, complete the construction of the door panel . Last aesthetic detail : the velvet lining of the door panels is coordinated with that of the seats.
Controls over ...
The
central part of the steering wheel - designed to hold the air bag ,
available in the near future - a number of side buttons that can be
operated with the fingertips , without let go. The buttons on the left control the radio ( station selection and volume) and the phone . The
buttons on the right allow you to navigate the menu of the on-board
computer and displays information on the screen at the center of the
instrument panel .
And under the steering wheel ...
Underneath the steering wheel are two steering column switches . The
one on the left controls the functions related to the visibility and
lighting (windshield wipers , hazard warning lights and dipped beam
switching / high) . The
right column allows you to operate the cruise control and slow motion
motor, ie the decompression brake fitted as standard on Cursor engines .
It
'also provided a function " speed programming " , which automatically
activates the engine brake when the vehicle exceeds the speed stored in
the controller (eg , downhill) . If
the vehicle is equipped with a hydraulic retarder on the transmission (
Intarder ZF ), the command is via the same lever , which includes four
additional positions over the drive of the motor brake .
Gear lever " swivel "
The
adoption of the two series of assistance ServoShift gearboxes ZF
Ecosplit helped to limit the length and the oscillation of the lever ,
now placed on the floor , at the side of the seat, in a position which
facilitates access to the center of the cab from the driver's seat.
For
vehicles equipped with automated transmission EuroTronic fully
automated , Iveco has developed an original command : blocking is
intended to accommodate the switch , located to the right of the seat
can rotate 180 degrees when the vehicle is stationary , thus freeing the
passage totally from the seat to the center of the cabin.
A screen at the center of the dashboard
The
dashboard , placed in front of the driver, is rounded at the top , so
that all the information is visible regardless of the adjustment of the
steering wheel . The
dashboard contains the speedometer, odometer and trip odometer ,
tachometer and the two analogue gauges fuel level and temperature of the
cooling liquid of the engine. The
tachograph has been moved above the windscreen , but for now it is
still hard , but it will soon be European type and record the parameters
riding on a magnetic medium.
At
the center of the dashboard , is located a color screen 5 " is divided
into three zones. The upper part shows permanent indications ( Cruise
Control regulation and speed limiter .) The central part shows the oil
level and the air
pressure and controls the various functions before departure.
Subsequently , the driver can view the operating parameters of the
engine and different path information ( for example , the fuel
consumption and the average speed .) the lower part displays any anomalies.
either side and above the screen , contains the indicator of the
headlights , signaling, functions stored ( engine brake , retarder,
differential lock , PTO , etc. . ) and some alarms.
The commands of the dashboard
All the controls placed on the dashboard were divided in a consistent manner. For
example , on the left you will find the master switch of the lights and
light switches with long range and front and rear fog . On
the right, the driver will find instead the commands related to driving
: the ASR exclusion or limitation of function ABS and emergency lights .
The
other commands ( interior lights, sunroof , sun visor Front electric
drive , power take-offs , etc. . ) Are located in the center console
oriented towards the driver . The same panel welcomes the parking brake lever and controls the heating or the air conditioner.
Electric and pneumatic
The
instrument panel above the windscreen in front of the driver , contains
four slots DIN standard : two are for the electronic tachograph and
radio , a third is planned for the CB and the fourth is free.
To
avoid electrical work , the Active Space cab is equipped with a whole
host of cables used for various applications : preparation for radio (if
the customer does not choose the unit Iveco) ; predisposition for CB ;
12 V socket on
the dashboard , support for the phone in the dash , independently of
the Iveco available on request , and finally, on the central module ,
right, are placed a 24 V socket and a socket for the compressed air ( to
clean up blowing off the dust ... ) , next to the diagnostic socket , only for service technicians Iveco .
