Brakes and retarder
Four disks and EBS
The
Stralis tractors are equipped with four ventilated disc brakes Knorr SB
7000 , diameter 436 x 45 , pneumatically and electronically controlled
EBS Wabco . Pressing the brake pedal , the driver defines a deceleration value . The
electronic control unit modulates the braking pressure in the brake
cylinder of the tractor , actuates the engine retarder - and any
transmission braking , on request - dosa and the supply pressure of the
brakes of the trailer , in order to obtain a homogeneous distribution of
the braking force between the axles. If the trailer is an old design , the onset of braking the tractor is aligned with that of the semi-trailer. The state of brake wear can be displayed on the control display of the instrument panel . The
EBS control unit ensures the functions of the ABS ( anti-lock braking )
, the load sensing valve as a function of load and ASR ( anti-spin ) .
The
advantages of EBS are many: if the trailer is also equipped with EBS,
the braking distance at 85 km / h is reduced to 16 m, equal to the
length of four cars in case of frequent changes of semi-trailer, the '
braking system of the tractor automatically adapts to that of the
display, even if the old generation ; wear is distributed evenly between
the axles of the tractor and the semitrailer , the contribution of the
automatic action of the main brake retarders extends the service life of parts subject to wear . For the user, this translates into significant savings on maintenance costs .
The
Stralis Active Time and Active Day with Cursor 8 engine, keep the rear
drum brakes , with electronic brakeforce EBL integrated in the control
unit of the ABS .
The rumble
For
extreme cases , Iveco offers upon request on all Stralis ZF Intarder of
the second generation is characterized by a wider field of schemes for
the maximum deceleration torque and a very low power vacuum .
Recall
that the Cursor engines have as standard an integrated retarder , Iveco
Turbo Brake, in which the absorbed energy is dispersed through the
exhaust . In
these conditions , the cooling system of the engine is fully available
to disperse the energy absorbed by the transmission brake . The retarding effect of the two systems can then be combined .
