The Stralis heart is called Cursor

Flexibility and power

Cursor engines are the heart of Stralis. An engine family that has already amply proved its worth in terms of performance, fuel economy and reliability thanks to:
  • single pump-injector with injection pressures up to 2000 bar;
  • camshaft in the head;
  • 4 valves per cylinder;
  • sub-block cylinder head and cylinder block for greater rigidity;
  • decompression engine brake;
  • electronic management of timing and amount of fuel for each cylinder;
  • variable turbine geometry for a prompt response to every rpm.

For this reason Cursor is always available, as evidenced by the torque curves which reach the maximum value below one thousand revolutions and keep it throughout the range of use.

In versions 8, 10 and 13 liters, covering a power range from 310 to 560 hp and maximum torque of up to 2,500 Newton / meter.

Powerful and reliable, Cursor engines have been designed to ensure not only excellent performance but also low running costs - as well as a superior driving comfort given their extraordinary elasticity.

Duration and operating economy

Stralis was designed to offer the customer a low total cost of ownership, thanks to the reduction of the two main cost items relating to the vehicle - maintenance and fuel. Stralis reduces maintenance costs by limiting the essentials downtime with prolonged oil change intervals (150,000 km) and an on-board diagnostics and quick and accurate.

The Cursor Euro 5 engines are a reference point in terms of torque, durability, maintenance and operating costs: they consume 2-5% less than the already economic Euro 3 versions.

Transmissions and axle

Downstream of the engine, wide range of gearboxes, axles ensure the optimal correspondence between the kinematic chain and the use missions, to the benefit of the productivity of the vehicle.

To transfer all the power to the drive wheels of the Iveco Cursor engines makes use of components and technologies to the market leader.

The gearboxes are available in a wide range of versions:

  • mechanical ZF 9 or 16 speed gears (with servo-assistance 'servoshift' to ensure comfortable gear shifting);
  • automatic Allison (specifically for the mission "stop and go");
  • EuroTronic fully-automated 12-speed, well-known and appreciated for its ergonomics and reliability on Stralis and Trakker.

Change 9-speed 9S1310TO with "simple H" equips models with Cursor 8 engine, 310 and 330 hp, and the automated gearbox Eurotronic 12AS1420TD is installed on models with Cursor 8 engine, 310 and 330 hp. The 16-speed manual gearbox is also available on models with Cursor 13 560 hp.

The automatic logic applies the principles of economic driving the choice of the ideal relationship, protects the gearbox against over-revving, safeguarding the clutch life, reduces power consumption and noise.

The Arvin Meritor rear axles and Iveco are characterized by large resistance and low maintenance, they are available in single and double reduction to ensure reliability under the most demanding missions.

Reliability and safety of a truck race
frame

The duration of a commercial vehicle, and especially heavy, depends primarily on the ability of the frame to bear intense and prolonged fatigue-free. Iveco is famous for its robust chassis, and Stralis chassis is no exception to the rule.

The side members, with double bottleneck U-section and connected by nailed crossbars are made of stainless steel Fe E 490 with high yield and with thickness between 6.7 mm to 7.7 mm.

Electrical System

Obviously the mechanical strength, by itself, is not sufficient to ensure reliability durable without a reliable electrical and electronic system.

This is why the Stralis wiring, cab and chassis, is made with CAN-Bus architecture and Multiplex technology, a solution that allows communication among all the units of the major organs and vehicle sensors in an extremely efficient manner.

Instead of the traditional wires where pass a single pulse, Stralis uses Multiplex wires through which you can send multiple signals simultaneously. The reduction of the cables on board (- 45% 25) and of the connection points results in an improved reliability, an elegant and clean layout on the frame, and a significant reduction of time and costs of service.

Braking system

Security is also a technologically advanced braking system. The whole Stralis range is equipped as standard with a fan disc system with high quality and EBS electronic control.

The EBS is designed to optimize the braking action: pressing the brake pedal, the driver sets an acceleration value and the electronic braking system acts on all the parameters of the speed reduction:

  • regulates the pressure in the brake cylinders of the vehicle;
  • modulates the supply pressure of the brakes of any trailer, so as to obtain an even distribution of braking force between the axles;
  • activates the decompression brake ITB (Iveco Turbo Brake).

For the missions on roads with high gradients, is available on the Stralis ZF Intarder second generation - characterized by a wider range of rpm for maximum deceleration torque and a reduction of power consumption without load, to the benefit of consumption.
