The Iveco Trakker range in detail

A complex market
The market for mining and construction vehicles represent only a small proportion of heavy vehicles weighing more than 16 tonnes. This does not prevent him, however, to be very complex, due to the many applications: vehicles with 2, 3 or 4-axis or four-wheel drive, a wide range of powers (from 270 to 480 hp Iveco); trucks and tractors; lightweight models or oversized; variants for special equipment. Then there are national peculiarities, as the mining and construction vehicles circulating generally in their country of registration and are subject to the limits of weight and size resulting from old codes of the Road, when they are higher than the values unified Europe. Finally, the nature of the soil, topography and climatic conditions require different configurations in terms of axles and engine power

Diversified equipment
The construction vehicles are essentially wagons. If the box is certainly the most popular outfit, there are also very specific applications, such as cement mixers for transporting ready-mixed concrete for use. We also find platforms, often accompanied by crane for handling. Numerous applications are related to public works: Vehicle equipment rack for companies, public authorities and administrations; rescue vehicles for fire fighters and Civil Protection; vehicles for the transport of raw materials, carrying out part of their off-road under conditions of low grip. It is the case of transportation of timber or swap bodies in the agricultural sector.

Two families of jobs
In the range quarry, we outline two classes of vehicles.
On the one hand, the vehicles whose payload is optimized to allow them to travel mainly on the road, in compliance with the authorized limits; these vehicles perform only the sections terminals on the slopes more or less bumpy. It is a 6x4 25/26 t and 32 t of 8x4.
On the other hand, the vehicles used off-road vehicles with higher tonnages and subjected to considerable stress. The slopes are just drawn, with steep slopes and variations of grip that put a strain on the drive train, especially the bridges of engine, suspension and steering. In this case, robustness is a primary consideration. The earthworks are the primary use of these vehicles, which compete with the specialized means, in respect of which offer advantages in terms of versatility, cost of acquisition and maintenance, as well as the ability to deal with road routes.

The exception Italian
The best example of exception is represented by Italy, which gives the attribute of exceptional transport to the construction site vehicles carrying non-hazardous raw materials: the so-called "means of work." The weights allowed are as follows: 20 t for 4x2, 33 tonnes for 6x4 and 6x6, 40 t and 56 t for 8x4 articulated for the combinations. In contrast, the speed is limited and a work light must be mounted on the cab roof.

With the Trakker, Iveco further develops the concept introduced with its ranges quarry earlier: two families of vehicles diversified in terms of powertrain, chassis and suspension. The common denominator is the cabin, seen that the needs of comfort are identical in both types of use.
