IVECO strengthens sustainable logistics with 42 new S-Way Natural Gas trucks for TESCO in Scotland

New CNG-powered fleet provides strong performance while reaping the benefits of natural gas.

Tesco is taking another major step towards greener logistics with the addition of 42 new IVECO S-Way Natural Gas 4x2 trucks to its fleet in Livingston, Scotland. These vehicles, tasked with delivering food and essential goods to Tesco stores across the region, will each clock up to 200,000 km per year. Together, they could cut annual CO₂ emissions by more than 6,400 tonnes – the equivalent of removing over 4,000 cars from the road.

At the heart of the IVECO S-Way CNG is the xCursor13 CNG engine from FPT Industrial, delivering an impressive 500hp – making the IVECO S-Way the most powerful single-fuel natural gas truck on the market. Beyond performance, this truck can offer up to a 95% CO₂ reduction compared to diesel when running on bio-CNG.

Efficiency is also built into the design. Advanced Mirrorcam technology reduces aerodynamic drag compared to standard mirrors, improving both fuel economy and driver visibility. Refuelling is as quick and simple as with diesel trucks – ensuring drivers get back on the road fast, while benefiting from the sustainability of CNG.

With this investment, Tesco and IVECO are showing that high performance and low emissions can go hand in hand, setting a new standard for sustainable transport.

The new IVECO S-Way features a driver-centric cab that has been ergonomically designed to provide class-leading comfort. An enhanced driving position, supportive seats, and a customisable digital driver’s display that helps reduce cognitive load, makes the cab a forward-thinking working environment.

Simone Curti, Head of EMEA Commercial Operations IVECO said: “The new IVECO S-Way CNG is a worthy flagship for the brand. Combining our most efficient engine to date with the most environmentally friendly fuel will help Tesco reduce its emissions output significantly and drive it closer to reaching its net-zero commitments. The constant expansion of CNG infrastructure makes natural gas a viable solution for today, and we’re pleased to see an increasing number of businesses driving towards their decarbonisation goals.
