Turin, May 16, 2025
As an official partner of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC) 2025, IVECO continues to actively support the decarbonization goals of the European Truck Racing Association (ETRA) for the fifth year in a row, which aims to achieve CO₂ neutrality by 2038. This commitment takes tangible form with the introduction of the first fully electric pace truck: the IVECO S-eWay tractor unit.
The IVECO S-eWay debuts as official ETRC ePaceTruck
For the first time in the history of the championship, a battery-electric truck will lead the grid: the IVECO S-eWay Pace Truck will serve as the official pace truck for the ETRC 2025. It will debut at the season opener in Misano, Italy, on May 17-18, joining the IVECO S-Way LNG pace truck, already in use in the last two seasons.
With a range of up to 500 kilometers, the vehicle is capable of reaching each race venue autonomously without requiring intermediate charging. It is powered by nine 82 kWh battery packs, for a total capacity of 738 kWh, and can be recharged to 80% in just 90 minutes thanks to its fast-charging capacity of up to 350 kW.
The 4x2 tractor features a twin-motor electric axle developed by FPT Industrial - IVECO’s sister brand specialized in powertrain innovation - delivering 480 kW of continuous power and 1,800 Nm of torque.
A distinctive exterior, featuring a bold livery, two light bars, an LED headlight unit, a three-part illuminated front protection bar and multiple LED flashers, ensures full compliance with ETRA technical regulations while delivering maximum visual impact on the grid.
Combining electric and LNG: IVECO’s multi-energy approach
Alongside the debut of the fully electric ePaceTruck, IVECO continues to highlight its leadership in renewable fuels with the IVECO S-Way LNG pace truck. Powered by bio-LNG, this vehicle can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 95% compared to traditional diesel trucks - showcasing IVECO’s holistic and pragmatic multi-energy strategy for sustainable freight transport.
This dual approach - combining electric mobility and bio-LNG on the racetrack- reiterates IVECO’s readiness to offer real, scalable solutions to reduce emissions across multiple transport applications.
“With the new IVECO S-eWay as the official pace truck of the ETRC 2025, we are sending out a clear and forward-looking message: the journey toward sustainable mobility in heavy-duty transport is well underway on our roads, and it is gradually beginning to make its mark in the world of motorsport,” says Carlotta Mathis, Head of Strategy and Marketing at IVECO. “As we celebrate IVECO’s 50th anniversary, we proudly reaffirm our long-standing partnership with the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship. Over the years, the ETRC has represented far more than a competition - it has been a platform where we share key values such as innovation, endurance, and technological progress. Our ongoing involvement in motorsport reflects our belief that what performs under the toughest conditions can lead progress on everyday roads.”
Der Bullen von IVECO” support and new season highlights
IVECO continues its technical sponsorship of “Die Bullen von IVECO”, the alliance between Team Schwabentruck and Team Hahn Racing. The teams compete with optimized IVECO S-Way-R race trucks, built to mirror the reliability and innovation of IVECO’s production vehicles.
Six-time European Champion Jochen Hahn leads Hahn Racing, alongside his son Lukas Hahn.
“We’ve used the winter to fine-tune both the engine and chassis to perfection. After our first tests in Most with the new truck, I’m confident this season will offer fans even more excitement” says Jochen Hahn.
Team Schwabentruck continues with Steffi Halm, driving her distinctive red IVECO S-Way-R.
“I expect my competitors to see nothing but red every time I pass them,” jokes Steffi Halm. “I’m thrilled and highly motivated for the season ahead.”
New for 2025, Dakar Truck winner Martin Macik will make his truck racing debut at the Most race, in Czech Republic, also behind the wheel of an IVECO S-Way-R.
All IVECO race trucks competing in the 2025 ETRC season will run on the latest generation of HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil), a synthetic, renewable fuel that enables significant reductions in emissions while maintaining the high-performance standards expected in top-tier motorsport.
