Iveco Daily. As new, after 1.000.000 kilometres

An online video recounts the story of 25 Iveco Dailys navigating the difficult terrain of the African continent day in and day out from South Africa to Namibia.

A typical morning in the everyday life of an Iveco Daily minibus in South Africa: departure from Soweto at 6:00 a.m. with the vehicle’s first stop at 6:45 a.m. on the outskirts of Johannesburg, where it takes on passengers going to Namibia. From the city, the Daily proceeds onto difficult terrain, including stretches of desert and savannah filled with wild animals and fords to cross – with the vehicle’s odometer gradually inching its way toward the one million kilometre mark.

This is the story depicted in the new video: “Iveco Daily. As new, after 1.000.000 kilometres”. A story that is as impressive as it is true, with the vehicle in the starring role. This story begins every morning in South Africa and ends each night in Namibia. It is a story of sacrifice, emotions and kilometres shared by 25 Iveco Dailys, produced in the Iveco plants in Europe, that navigate the difficult terrain of the African continent day in and day out. A journey of 1,000 kilometres, 365 days a year – a tremendous distance that has exceeded one million kilometres in just three years. The video shows a team of Iveco technicians arriving just in time to “rescue” the vehicle’s driver, and they are astonished to find that the odometer is displaying six zeroes.

Thirteen customers in South Africa have in fact reported to Iveco that they have reached this mileage figure: a number that is more than twice the distance between the Earth and the Moon (almost 400,000 kilometres) and 25 times the Earth’s circumference (40,000 kilometres).

Strength, reliability, and endurance have always been the hallmarks of Iveco vehicles, qualities that have once again registered another important milestone in the company’s history. Ever since 1978, the Iveco Daily has had what it takes to be the absolute star of light transport in Europe and throughout the world. From the very first version the vehicle set new records, always ahead of the market, becoming the point of reference for innovation in the field of light commercial vehicles.

As can be seen from the images shot in South Africa, the Daily has proven to be a vehicle that is not just strong, safe, and reliable but also, above all, tough and resistant enough to come installed with a seven-digit odometer. Its chassis with metal struts provides structural rigidity, but also wear resistance – especially on difficult terrains such as those in Africa – and durability.
The independent front suspension and rigid rear axles provide the vehicle with excellent road roughness dampening capacity, linearity and precision in steering response and road holding and handling stability.
