Aldridge-based Brownhills Glass is marking its 30th anniversary with the delivery of a new Eurocargo 12 tonne rigid, built onto Iveco’s special ‘EL’ low height chassis, supplied by local dealer Guest Trucks. The vehicle features a striking All Blacks livery, complete with Maori graphics, to highlight the company’s milestone achievement and set it apart from the firm’s traditional brown and cream liveried fleet.
Mounted with bodywork manufactured by Supertrucks of Saint Helens, the Eurocargo features a nearside external rack set at a five degree angle of lean, together with double internal racks with ratchet straps for the secure transport of glass. The low chassis of this particular model provides the best possible solution for transporting glass, since it ensures safe and easy access for crew when loading and unloading the vehicle.
Its arrival in the company’s 14-strong fleet, which already comprises 12 Eurocargos, marks the first truck with an automated gearbox to be purchased by Brownhills Glass. As standard fitment in all new 4x2 Eurocargos, the two-pedal EuroTronic gearbox marks the single most important new feature on the latest Eurocargo model and is designed to further enhance driver comfort and safety.

“We placed the order for the new Eurocargo last year to ensure it would be bodied and ready to enter operation on 1 June 2009, to mark the 30th anniversary of our company,” says Tim Price, Managing Director of Brownhills Glass. “We had seen the All Blacks liveried trucks on Iveco’s stand at the CV Show and decided we wanted to follow their lead and do something really striking. We’ve always operated Eurocargos in our fleet and continue to do so for one simple reason – they have never let us down.
“Key to our good customer experience is the close relationship we have with Guest Trucks, the local Iveco dealer, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting the introduction of the latest model into our fleet. I’m confident the EuroTronic gearbox will suit our business well, and the drivers are certainly looking forward to putting it through its paces,” he adds.
Expected to cover approximately 40,000 miles a year, the vehicle will remain on the fleet for eight years and has been supplied with an Iveco Elements repair and maintenance agreement, which will see all servicing and maintenance undertaken at Guest Trucks.
Built to carry a payload of approximately 6.5 tonnes of glass, the new Eurocargo will operate primarily within a 50 mile radius of Aldridge, but also carry out nationwide deliveries where requested. It will be used to transport glass to a complete spectrum of customers, ranging from large double glazing manufacturers through to independent retailers.
The Eurocargo 120EL22 is one of just 11,584 different Eurocargo factory configurations, featuring the newly revised cab, which adopts the same modern design and styling as seen on Iveco’s flagship Stralis and Trakker ranges of heavy trucks.
Its two-pedal automated EuroTronic transmission is designed to operate with a unique software control package developed by Iveco to optimise fuel economy, and ensures the vehicle is as adept at long distance trunking as it is on an urban distribution cycle where routine traffic congestion means stop/start driving is commonplace.
Powering this model is Iveco’s larger 5.9 litre tector engine, which meets the stringent Euro 5 emissions standards. It is capable of producing up to 217 hp at 2,700 rev/min and 680 Nm of torque between 1,200 and 2,100 rev/min.
