Record order in Germany for the Crossway bus

Iveco has won a major tender for delivering more than 150 buses to Deutsche Bahn DB Fuhrpark Service GmbH, Germany’s largest bus transport provider. The order concerns the Iveco Crossway Low Entry intercity bus and delivery will commence in 2013.

Deutsche Bahn will deploy the Iveco buses in its regional and urban transport network. These operations are managed by DB Regio Bus, through 22 bus companies and 70 associated enterprises across Germany. Around two million passengers use this network on a daily basis.

The Low Entry intercity concept is a dedicated design by Iveco, developed especially for interurban use. Crossway LE (Low Entry) is particularly well positioned to meet the needs of out-of-town transport, which requires a mix of good accessibility and maximum seating capacity.

Iveco Crossway Low Entry is market leader in its segment, offering a fast and reliable transport solution, while reducing fuel consumption and running costs for the operator. The bus is trusted by Iveco clients all over the world, meeting the challenges of diverging climate conditions and differentiated technical demands. The buses are manufactured in the Iveco plant in Vysoke Myto (Czech Republic). The plant has an acclaimed reputation for producing quality products.

Iveco offers a wide range of passenger transport vehicles, meeting the requirements of the many different public and private operators of minibuses, school buses, tourism coaches, low-floor accessible buses, standard and articulated buses with Diesel, CNG and hybrid Diesel-electric propulsion systems. Iveco is a major player in European passenger mobility, relentlessly pursuing its research and development activities to enhance the attractiveness of collective passenger transport and meeting the needs of sustainable mobility.

Technical details

The Crossway LE places great emphasis on accessibility thanks to two double doors (1200 mm) at the front and in the middle, with an all-flat floor in between and two wheelchair spaces. A retractable ramp for wheelchair users in the central footboard is deployed electrically to bridge the gap between the pavement and the vehicle floor. The low-slung front part of the vehicle benefits from an interior height of 2.565 m; it can be configured in terms of seats/standing room according to the needs of the operator.

Iveco Crossway Low Entry buses are equipped with a Cursor 8 engine, 330 Hp , with the innovative SCR technology developed by FPT Industrial, and meet the EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) emissions standard. The unique FPT Industrial SCR technology facilitates operating with low running costs, while respecting the environment to the highest degree. The Cursor engine is a leader in fuel economy, and stands out because of its extremely smooth running.
