The improvement of the EU regulation process in the field of commercial vehicles and the evaluation of its impacts in terms of costs and effectiveness are particularly relevant issues for the European manufacturers, according to what has arisen during the International Conference “Competitiveness, Development, Sustainability – The European Road” held on 6th December in Bologna, promoted by the Automotive Industry National Association (Associazione Nazionale Filiera Industria Automobilistica - ANFIA).
In this occasion Iveco, through its CEO Paolo Monferino, has stressed some of the fundamental aspects concerning these issues, including the compliance with the so-called “lead-time”, period necessary to enforce technical regulations, and the important role of national policies which, through suitable measures adopted in the respective budgets, can stimulate the renewal of the running park to improve the air quality.
“In Italy, Euro 0 and Euro 1 vehicles are still largely present, while ‘cleaner’ vehicles are still a minority. Measures to accelerate the renewal of the running park would allow a considerable reduction of pollutants, nearly the double compared to normal pace of renewal” declared Paolo Monferino, considering a possible cost/benefit analysis starting from the results of a recent research.
The Conference consisted of two separate sessions, focused respectively on the results of the Working Group CARS21, promoted by the European Commission for an integrated approach regarding safety, environment, and sustainable mobility.

The Automotive Industry National Association (ANFIA).
ANFIA was founded in Turin in 1912 to establish a dialogue between the Public Administration and the rising Italian automotive industry in relation to all the issues concerning the new phenomenon represented by car. ANFIA is among the founding bodies of the current OICA (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles), consisting, at world level, of the national Associations of the automotive industry. In 1960 ANFIA took part, with the Associations of the countries members of the Common Market, in the foundation of CLCA, now merged in ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers Association). Since 1972 ANFIA has been a member of CLEPA (European Association of the Automotive Suppliers), which includes all the international component manufacturers. Moreover, it is also a member of ECF (European Caravan Federation) and of CLCCR (Comité de Liaison de la Construction de Carrosseries et Remorques). ANFIA represents the Italian automotive sector before all national and international institutions and bodies (EU, ECE/UN, OECD, etc.), directly and through OICA, ACEA and CLEPA.
