The last match of the Iveco Series of rugby will be disputed in front of a sold-out crowd tomorrow evening at the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, New Zealand. Attempting to oppose the power of the All Blacks this time will be the national team of Canada. The outlook is, however, rather bleak for the Canadians because they have been beaten by the famous New Zealanders on the three previous occasions when the teams have met. Tomorrow evening’s match could, therefore, transform itself into a spectacle of a triumphant conclusion of the Iveco Series for the All Blacks, on offer to rugby fans of Hamilton, a small town of around 130, 000 inhabitants, little more than 100 km to the south of Auckland.
In any event, the match with the Canadians will be the occasion to refine the team’s preparations for the first match of the Tri-Nations, the international tournament that will be contested in the southern hemisphere by national teams from Australia and South Africa besides the New Zealanders. The All Blacks, already 7 times victors of the tournament, will compete against the ‘Springboks’, the national team of South Africa, next week.
The New Zealand – Canada match, at the end of which the Trakker Cup will be awarded, will mark the conclusion of Iveco’s first experience in the world of great rugby.
