Iveco and Stormont Truck & Van have secured a major fleet order for 53 new Iveco Eurocargos from Safetykleen, the UK’s market leading parts-washing company.
The deal marks one of the largest orders to be placed for Iveco’s new Eurocargo medium truck range, which now benefits from an automated EuroTronic transmission as standard on all 4x2 models. This follows a strategy successfully pioneered by Iveco with the Stralis in 2001, when it launched its new heavy truck range with an automated gearbox.
The Eurocargo 75E16S rigids are each being mounted with 14 ft box bodies and tail-lifts and will be used by Safetykleen to provide its customers with cost-effective solutions for component cleaning and degreasing, paint spraygun cleaning and hazardous waste management. They are also being joined by a delivery of 25 Daily 35S12 chassis cabs with box bodies and tail-lifts, together with two Stralis’.
Lee Hosier, Operations Director at Isleworth-based Safetykleen says: “The introduction of the two-pedal EuroTronic gearbox in the new Eurocargo is ideally suited to our business and the reaction from drivers has been very positive.
“Switching from a manual to an automated gearbox will help to offer enhanced driver comfort and safety – particularly as our vehicles are increasingly operating in urban areas where routine traffic congestion means stop/start driving is commonplace,” he adds.
Spread across a nationwide network of more than 20 Safetykleen branches and waste transfer stations, the latest Eurocargo and Daily vehicles will be used to carry out Safetykleen’s famous all inclusive service concept: supply of cleaning fluid and solvent, machine maintenance, and waste removal for recycling on a schedule to suit customers’ needs.
The new Eurocargo and Daily models will join a 250-strong commercial vehicle fleet, of which approximately 85 per cent are Ivecos. Expected to remain in service with Safetykleen for five years, the vehicles will average between 30,000 and 35,000 miles a year.
As one of the first major fleets to introduce the new Eurocargo, Safetykleen’s drivers will benefit from a series of core product enhancements including a restyled cab exterior following the same styling cues as launched across the latest flagship Stralis range.
Inside, the Eurocargo also features a new dashboard offering better cab ergonomics for the driver and crew, combined with the same luxury driver’s seat and head rest found in the Stralis. Driver comfort is also increased yet further thanks to revised door panels which incorporate an improved arm rest, featuring electric windows and optional mirror adjust, whilst the door pockets have ample capacity for storing personal belongings.
Safety has been further bolstered with the introduction of a driver’s seatbelt warning safety device, together with an audible parking brake warning system which operates if the driver’s door is opened without the handbrake being applied.
Like all new Eurocargos these vehicles benefit from Euro 5 engine technology and have been specified with the proven 3.9 litre tector engine. Capable of producing up to 160 hp at 2,700 rev/min, these four cylinder engines also develop up to 530 Nm of torque between 1,200 and 2,100 rev/min and utilise selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. This sees each new vehicle fitted with a 25 litre urea tank, AdBlue dosing system and catalytic converter.
Each of the Daily’s joining the fleet are powered by a 2.3 litre HPI engine which delivers up to 116 hp and is built using Iveco’s expertise as the world’s largest manufacturer of diesel engines over 70 hp. The characteristics of this engine ensure the Daily is both flexible in traffic and ideal for longer journeys.
