The Delivery Conditions or INCOTERMES break down into four groups:
- the only Incoterm in
group E (EXW) envisages delivery of the goods at the seller’s plant and does not contemplate transport;
- the Incoterms in
group F (FCA for any mode of transport; FAS and FOB only for transport by sea) make the main transport the buyer’s responsibility;
- the Incoterms in
group C (CFR and CIF only for transport by sea and inland waterway; CPT and CIP for any means of transport) make the main transport the seller’s responsibility;
- the Incoterms in
group D (DAF and DDU for any means of transport; DES and DEQ only for transport by sea) envisage that the seller is responsible for the arrival of the goods at their destination, assuming responsibility for all the related risks and expenses.
Below we outline the different delivery conditions defined by the Incoterms
2000depending on the means of transport adopted.
For the purposes of clarity, we provide a table with the initials and an explanation of each Incoterm, pointing out that in the delivery term clause it is sufficient to indicate the international abbreviation (e.g. "FOB"), although adding the definition in English will avoid interpretation uncertainties.
