The European Union issued Directive 2000/53/EC to minimise the impact of end-of life vehicles on the environment, thus contributing to the protection, preservation and improvement of the quality of the environment. The Directive establishes certain criteria and terms within which manufacturers must comply.
To prevent the production of waste that is harmful to the environment, the manufacturers, in liaison with the material and equipment manufacturers, have been involved in the grading of materials used in the construction of new vehicles. The regulation requires that by the end of 2015, goods or passenger transport vehicles (up to nine seats) with a total weight of up to and including 3.5t must be recoverable to 95% of their average weight. Iveco is ahead of the game because it can already offer its customers a product with a percentage recovery rate that is already very close to the set limit.
The new end-of-life vehicle regulation – that came into force on 3rd November 2003 with Legislative Decree SI No 2635 of 8th October (June) 2003 implementing European Directive (2000/53/EC) - requires that all manufacturers and importers of new cars should recover vehicles sold by themselves at the end of their lives, guaranteeing that they are processed in a manner that is respectful of the environment. For the manufacturer to accept responsibility for the end-of-life recovery, such vehicles must contain their essential parts, namely engine, transmission, body, electronic control units and catalytic converter and be free of additional waste.
To ensure that all its customers receive excellent service, compliant with current regulations at all times, Iveco has developed a system that allows its customers to dispose of their own end-of-life vehicles at no additional cost,[1] to a certified network of vehicle salvage companies.

Iveco has carefully selected the vehicle salvage centres in order to guarantee a service compliant with quality standards of excellence for the collection, processing and recycling of decommissioned vehicles.
