IVECO donates an IVECO Stralis unit to Transaid in Ghana to deliver examiner and driver training
IVECO collaborates with Transaid in its mission to support drivers, governments, and training institutions to improve road safety, offering training courses aimed to reduce traffic deaths and injuries.

Backed by Iveco Group and its commitment to supporting local communities, IVECO donated an IVECO Stralis unit to Transaid, a UK-based international development charity, working with regional stakeholders to address transport challenges, to improve road safety, and to promote sustainable transport access across sub-Saharan Africa. Iveco Group has been supporting Transaid since 1998, and is a found partner of the international development charity.
The donation is the latest milestone in a longstanding partnership between IVECO and Transaid to improve road safety across sub-Saharan Africa. A delivery ceremony was held for this occasion at Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Head Office in Accra with the participation of Ministry of Transport, Ghana Driving Association and other local stakeholders.
The IVECO Stralis 4x2 tractor model AS440S50T/P has been provided to support Transaid’s Driving Safety Across Ghana project and facilitate the training of driver examiners and test F-class license applicants. The Driving Safety Across Ghana project works with transport associations to support the rollout of a new national Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) driver training standard to HGV drivers, aiming to reach 8,000 drivers nationwide through direct engagement and sensitization. The project will also build training capacity of driver trainers in inland Ghana to respond to the anticipated increase in demand for training there, as well as support the establishment of an institutional home for the training of HGV driver trainers. Additionally, the project will train Master Examiners from the Ghana Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority to enable them to access applicants in accordance with the new HGV standard and other associated assessment tools.
IVECO and the local official dealer Silver Star Auto Limited, serving the Ghanian territory with the IVECO full range offer, played a pivotal role in coordinating and facilitating the logistic process to allow the vehicle to reach the final destination.
We are pleased to announce that the Ghana Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority will roll out the new HGV standard following the passage of the amended Road Traffic Act, L.I. 2180. This rollout will make refresher training compulsory for drivers prior to license renewal and will now allow HGV drivers to go through structured training prior to acquiring their F-class license.

In addition, it creates an important opportunity for the Authority to assess F-class licence applicants using a standard vehicle. We extend our sincere appreciation to IVECO for this generous contribution, which will significantly support ongoing efforts to improve road safety in Ghana.”
Building lasting relationships
This latest vehicle donation builds on a long history of support by IVECO, which included the donation of a Stralis for a similar driver training project in Tanzania in 2011. Previously IVECO donated three Daily Vans to support an access to healthcare project in Ghana, and an on/off-road Trakker to help with the post-Tsunami clean-up in Sri Lanka.
IVECO has also participated in Transaid’s cycle challenges for the last four years, including this year’s ride from London to the Isle of Wight. Transaid was also selected as the beneficiary for IVECO’s Mission Awards for 2026, an event that celebrates standout fleets, resilient businesses, and innovative vehicle body builds.
