Iveco Genlyon wins the International Fuel Saving Competition in China
Genlyon, the heavy range on-road vehicle produced by the SAIC-Iveco Hongyan joint venture, has received the award for the best fuel consumption in the International Truck Fuel Saving competition, organised by the China’s Ministry of Transport and sponsored by the magazine, Commercial Vehicle News.
The competition took place between vehicles of the main Chinese competitors in the industry, such as Dongfeng, Foton, North Benz, JAC, Camco, and others. Genlyon won first place in the 6x4, 380 hp tractor segment, surpassing the stringent tests of the Chinese Ministry of Transport.
Determining factors in the success of this vehicle are the advanced, state of the art Cursor 9 engine, the notable reduction in air resistance (Cd) and very low tare weight of the vehicle.
Guo Quan, Deputy General Manager of SAIC-Iveco Hongyan, in receiving the award, reiterated that the objective of his company is to produce fuel efficient vehicles creating value and profitability for its customers. This prestigious trophy is thus a recognition of SAIC-Iveco Hongyan,s social and institutional commitment to satisfying customer needs.
Genlyon is the first fruit of the Iveco – Saic joint venture and brings to the market Iveco’s European technology and sophistication with product design in China and marks a strategic entry to the premium heavy tractor market.
Genlyon is produced in Chongqing, China at the all-new SIH headquarters and production facility constructed on a green-field site. The combination of an aerodynamic cab design and the fuel efficiency of a very modern power train specification give Genlyon a premium level vehicles dignity with fuel economy on a par with the best of the competition on a world stage.
The premium nature of Genlyon is immediately evident by the Stralis Active Space cab with internal and external appointment designed specifically for the Chinese market, including the standard specification of air conditioning and air suspended driver’s seat. CAN electronic systems are used to manage vehicle safety and operating functions giving also sophisticated driver assistance features .
The heart of Genlyon is the Cursor engine. Drive to the 12 speed synchromesh transmission is through a 430 mm diameter single dry plate friction clutch. The launch of Genlyon marks also the world debut of the new Cursor 9 engine. Coming from the FPT Cursor range, this new 9 litre engine, equipped with the latest generation common rail fuel injection system and is locally produced in China. Engine power ratings of 270 cv and 400 cv are available with the engine certified to the Euro III exhaust emission requirements and designed for subsequent upgrading to Euro IV and Euro V in line with China’s transport policy.
The wide Genlyon range offers over 800 different combinations that will enlarge progressively in the future and can meet the customer needs for every different type of missions.
The Genlyon tractor is plated at 49t gross combination mass with individual axle ratings of 7t front and 26t rear bogie. Axle technical capacity is designed to accommodate running at increased loads where circumstances permit.
