Iveco wins order for 110 Fire Appliances in Slovak Republic
Iveco has won a contract to supply 110 fire appliances based on the Trakker AT260T45V 6x6 chassis, in two phases, to the Fire Fighting and Rescue Corps (HaZZ) in the Slovak Republic, the first such tender awarded by the authority for 21 years. The fire appliance body work, including expellant pumps and tanks, is supplied by the Czech main specialist supplier, THT Policka (Torvana hasici Techniky) and the contract is being fulfilled with 55 units immediately and the remaining 55 units by the end of May 2010.
The vehicle prime contractor is the Slovak Iveco Dealer, Auto-Impex, at their Autocentrum facility in Trnava who carry out preparatory work to the Trakkers before the body building activity begins. This work is essential to achieve perfect mating of the chassis to the body and includes CAN Bus communication between the chassis and the body as well as both digital and analogue communication systems.
The successful supply contract follows the development of an initial vehicle in April 2009 that had to undergo testing for the chassis and the body work. Now a team of 20 Auto-Impex technicians have received detailed training in order to complete this project according to the exacting quality and time constraints included in the contract. 5 vehicles are completed every 5 days and, together with THT technicians, the fire appliances are handed over to the customer with in depth training to the 9 crew team that will operate each appliance.
Auto-Imex special vehicles expert, Peter Michalik, says, “We are thrilled to be the vehicle supplier to the Fire Fighting and Rescue Corp with their first appliances for 21 years.”
