Iveco Trakker production begins in Kenya

Production of the Iveco Trakker, one of the Italian company's range of heavy off-road vehicles, has begun in Kenya.

A contract to locally assemble the vehicles was signed a year ago by CMC Motors Group Limited (Iveco’s importer in Kenya), KVM (CMC’s industrial partner) and IVECO, resulting in the first Trakker – the AT 720 T 42 TH version – rolling off the production lines just a few days ago at the KVM factory in Thika, a small town in the province of Central Kenya and around 40 kilometres from Nairobi.

And thanks to the contribution from Iveco’s CKD Technical Support for in situ vehicle assembly, the Thika factory today carries out assembly to high standards of quality in terms of delivery times and reliability of the finished product.

Vehicle assembly in Kenya enables Iveco to bypass the problem of high customs tariffs that penalise exports to certain markets. This will enable Iveco to boost its presence in Kenya, helping it to conquer a leadership position in the heavy vehicles sector.
