Iveco is using the occasion of SED 2007 to launch its latest Trakker range of on/off-road rigids and tractor units, with the first new right-hand drive Trakker 8x4 taking pride of place on its stand.
The new model provides Iveco with a solid foundation from which to further raise its profile in this market sector, on the back of strong sales in 2006 which saw Trakker record an impressive 122.2 per cent boost in registrations.
Amongst the most significant new features on Trakker is the introduction of the new Active Day and Active Time cabs, based upon those unveiled on the latest Stralis models at the Commercial Vehicle Show in April. These offer the same degree of comfort for construction work as is typical of Iveco’s on-road models, with the EuroTronic gear selection mounted on the steering column and dash. Key controls, including the decompression engine brake, optional ZF intarder, radio and cruise control are all able to be operated without the driver taking their hands off the steering wheel.
For the first time Iveco has also specified its new Trakker with single reduction Meritor axles and ventilated disc brakes all-round on 6x4 and 8x4 rigid models (replacing duo duplex drum brakes). This will improve both fuel economy and braking performance, whilst ensuring Trakker appeals to an even wider customer base. The use of disc brakes also guarantees simpler and faster maintenance, helping to further reduce downtime during vehicle servicing.
Trakker is available in 4x4, 6x4, 6x6 and 8x4 rigid models, and as a 6x4 tractor unit with a plated weight of up to 72 tonnes. The Active Day cab is expected to account for 80 per cent of all vehicle deliveries, whilst the Active Time sleeper cab, available with a standard or high roof, will be suitable for longer distance operations.
The full model range is available exclusively with a choice between the Euro 5 7.8 litre Cursor 8 engine or the 12.88 litre Cursor 13 engines, offering power outputs from 310 to 450 hp.
Trakker AD350T36K
The Trakker on display is an 8x4 tipper chassis with an Active Day cab, finished in Maranello Red and powered by a 360 hp example of the Cursor 8 engine.
Built on a 5,020mm wheelbase, this vehicle features the EuroTronic 1930TD automated 12-speed gearbox, single reduction Meritor axles and disc-braking with uprated front parabolic leaf suspension with anti-roll bar and shock absorbers, together with rear parabolic cantilever suspension. The specification includes cab rear windows, door roller blinds, headlamp protection, heated rear view mirror, vertical exhaust silencer and rotating roof beacons. It also benefits from an external sunvisor and air-conditioning, together with alloy wheels, with the potential for a payload in excess of 20 tonnes once fitted with an aggregate standard aluminium tipper body.
Like the Daily and Eurocargo vehicles on display on the Iveco stand, the new Trakker has been security marked and registered by Retainagroup, Iveco’s new specialist security partner. Commencing imminently, every Iveco vehicle sold in the UK will benefit from this new service, with each vehicle being marked with a unique code. This is proven to make stolen vehicles easier to identify and acts as a powerful tool in detecting vehicle cloning. Retainagroup marked vehicles are also an effective theft deterrent, with a marked and registered vehicle 50 per cent less likely to be stolen than an unmarked one, and up to 55 per cent more likely to be recovered if stolen.
