Sheffield Haulier Wins Iveco Daily Van

The Operations Manager of a haulage firm in Sheffield is ‘absolutely delighted’ after winning a brand new Iveco Daily van, worth over £19,500, in a national competition.

Martyn Thorpe won the Daily van for his company, Ernest Thorpe & Co Ltd, based in Halifax Road, after entering a competition in specialist industry newspaper Motor Transport.

“I had seen the competition advertised for a couple of months but hadn’t submitted an entry as I didn’t think I stood a chance of winning. I finally answered the three questions about the Daily range and posted my entry off just days before the deadline, and was absolutely delighted to hear I’d won,” says Mr Thorpe.

The arrival of the Daily marks only the second Iveco to join the 60 strong Ernest Thorpe fleet, which is comprised mainly of maximum weight tractor units, supported by various rigids and a number of vans. It was presented to Mr Thorpe by Mike Lancaster, Sales & Business Manager at Sherwood Commercial Vehicles, the local Iveco distributor in Highfield Lane, Sheffield.

Expected to cover up to 60,000 miles a year, the Daily will be kept busy operating on general collection and delivery duties across the UK, with its 12m³ load space allowing a payload of up to 1,365 kg.

The competition was organised in celebration of the Iveco Daily’s success in being crowned Fleet Van of the Year 2005 by Motor Transport.

As Europe’s most popular light commercial vehicle, and one of the top three marques in the UK, the Daily has gone on to be voted Van of the Year 2005 by What Van?, Britain’s Ultra Light Truck 2006 by Professional Van & Light Truck and Best Light Truck 2006 by Commercial Fleet World.

The Daily 35S12 is the most popular panel van in Iveco’s light commercial vehicle range, which is available with eight different load space volumes available from 7 to 17.2 m³. It is also one of 3,000 different models in the Daily line-up, with gross vehicle weights from 3.2 to 6.5 tonnes, comprising
