Daily Triumphs With Fourth Top Industry Award

The Iveco Daily has picked up its fourth top industry award of the past 12 months after being voted Best Light Truck 2006 in the Commercial Fleet World Honours.

This latest accolade follows Daily’s string of recent success’ which has seen the popular light commercial vehicle range voted Britain’s Ultra Light Truck by Professional Van and Light Truck magazine, Fleet Van of the Year by Motor Transport newspaper and Van of the Year by What Van? magazine.

Daily extends to over 3,000 different models with gross vehicle weights from 3.2 to 6.5 tonnes and includes a comprehensive selection of vans, chassis cabs and chassis crew cabs. It includes the largest panel van available to buy on the market - offering an unrivalled load carrying capacity of 17.2 m³ – one of eight different load space volumes available from 7 m³.

John Kendall, Editor of Commercial Fleet World, says: “Continuous research and development by Iveco has transformed Daily into a vehicle which leads the 3.5 – 6.5 tonne light truck market in the UK, with 25.6 per cent market share.

“The larger 6.5 tonne Daily models offer a payload to challenge some 7.5 tonne trucks, and the new 3.0 litre engine launched last year is highly impressive, notable for its low noise levels, good fuel consumption and excellant driveability,” he adds.

The judging criteria for these latest awards were based on the main purchasing decision for van operators and the Daily was assessed and scored highly for its excellent driveability, comfort, performance, handling, refinement, safety, load-space, economy, wide range and overall value for money.

Chris Thorneycroft-Smith, Iveco’s Managing Director, says: “Few light commercials offer the breadth of range afforded by Daily, coupled with performance characteristics which make it a top choice for applications ranging from general distribution through to demanding ‘blue light’ emergency services applications,” he explains.

The Commercial Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers and service companies which have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved the highest possible level of excellence in their sector. The judging panel is chaired by industry professional, George Emmerson, who has managed fleets at IBM, NHBC and Black Horse Agencies, supported by a panel including Ken Rogers, John Kendall and Ross Durkin from Fleet World’s editorial team, Alan Cole of Glass’s Guide and fleet manager Jackie Pomfrett.

The award was presented to Iveco during a ceremony at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London, on May 18.
