 Riverside returns to Seddon Atkinson

October 2005

Riverside Truck Rental is taking delivery of 12 new Seddon Atkinson M5 Pacer refuse collection chassis, marking the first major fleet deal the company has awarded to Seddon Atkinson in three years.

The order was prompted by the introduction of the new Iveco Group cab into the Pacer range, making the Seddon Atkinson one of the most state-of-the-art refuse collection vehicles available in the UK.

Comprising ten 26 tonne Pacer 6x4 double-drive chassis and two 23 tonne Pacer 6x2 narrow-track’s with mid lift axles, the new fleet is being supplied by Manchester-based Seddon Atkinson distributor CD Bramall.

“We operate a strict five-year rolling fleet replacement programme to ensure our spot hire fleet reflects the latest technology available,” says Chris Snelson, Operations Director of Riverside Truck Rental.

“Seddon Atkinson was awarded this contract based on a combination of three key factors; the impressive new M5 Pacer chassis, the proven reliability of Seddon Atkinson products and the whole life costs of owning and maintaining the product,” he explains.

The Pacers have been specified with a mixture of Faun Variopress and Geesink Norba refuse collection bodies, together with a combination of Faun, Geesink, Otto and Terberg bin-lifts.

Each of the vehicles has been finished in a distinctive green and white livery, and join a total fleet of over 500 commercial vehicles operated by Widnes-based Riverside Truck Rental.  This comprises 60 per cent dedicated municipal chassis and 40 per cent general haulage tractor units.

The entire fleet is available for both short and long-term hire, ranging from one day to five years, across the UK.

The new Pacer cab, designed by Stile Bertone, offers a spacious and well laid out cabin with a front bumper assembly which utilises a re-designed steel bumper bar complete with caged headlights, aided by an automatic headlamp levelling device.  New front quarter panel air deflectors allow an improved level of airflow into the engine, and a front under-run protection system is included as standard for added safety.

The new fleet of Pacer’s are powered by Iveco’s 5.9 litre tector engine rated at 275 hp and driven through an Allison MD3560P five-speed automatic transmission, with a wide ratio variant making it suitable for stop-start and on/off road applications.
