Alan Gee Transport Services has taken delivery of one of the first Iveco Daily chassis cabs to be fitted with the new Deep Sleeper cab modification, launched by Hatcher Components in conjunction with Iveco.
The Bradford-based operator is using the Daily 40C14 (down rated to 3.5 tonnes) with a three axle Ifor Williams trailer on which has been built a 14 ft curtainside body. The chassis cab itself also features an 11.5 ft curtainside body, combining to offer a total volume capacity of 1,300 ft3.
Alan Gee, joint partner in the company, explains: “We previously fitted our vehicles with sleeper pods, but when we saw Hatcher’s Deep Sleeper at the CV Show we decided to put this vehicle to the test on our fleet.
“The driver thinks his new Daily is fantastic, and it certainly stands out from the crowd. He is very impressed with the spaciousness of the cab and particularly the amount of storage available underneath the bunk,” he adds.
This latest vehicle is expected to cover over 75,000 miles a year and joins a fleet comprising six similar Dailys, each fitted with a sleeper pod. It will be used for general haulage duties across the country, transporting relatively lightweight goods ranging from weaving yarns and beds to chairs and grit bins.
The Deep Sleeper cab features an insulated velour lined interior, featuring a pair of Invertec lights, storage lockers and a 1,955 mm x 600 mm bunk. It is also fitted with a night heater for additional driver comfort.
Power is provided by Iveco’s new 3.0 litre HPI engine, which benefits from a turbocharger and wastegate, producing up to 136 hp and a maximum torque of 340 Nm.
The full Daily range comprises over 3,000 different models with gross vehicle weights from 3.2 to 6.5 tonnes and includes a comprehensive selection of vans, chassis cabs and chassis crew cabs. This guarantees the widest possible choice for operators looking to purchase a robust light commercial vehicle.
