 Iveco Rewards Women In Transport

October 2004

Iveco’s Women in Transport group has praised the achievements of three ladies working in the road transport industry with its third annual Women in Transport Awards, jointly sponsored by Iveco and the Road Haulage Association (RHA).

The Awards were presented during the RHA’s annual lunch, held at the Savoy Hotel on October 6, 2004, and recognised the achievements of women in the road transport industry, with three categories comprising Operational Excellence, Administrative Excellence and Owner Operator Excellence.

Those honoured at this year’s ceremony include Dee Parsons, National Transport Support Manager for Sainsbury’s Supply Chain in Rugby, who won the Administrative Excellence Award. She was joined by Kim Duncalf, a driver for Edwards Logistics, who took home the Operational Excellence Award and Owner Operator Excellence award winner Mandi Kirby, of Gary Cannon Transport.

The awards were presented by Chris Thorneycroft-Smith, Director of Iveco's Truck & Van Business Units, who said: “There are many groups of people within the road transport industry who play a vital role in keeping the wheels of our industry moving, and we are here today to recognise one particular group – women.”

“Since this award scheme was set up three years ago we have discovered that there are many women out there playing an important part in moving those wheels.  From Managing Directors, Transport Managers, and Warehouse Operatives to drivers of a whole range of different sized commercial vehicles," he added.

RHA Chief Executive Roger King added: "I am delighted that the Association's annual lunch once again provided the forum for these important awards. It is an occasion that brings together the major players within the transport industry and so provides the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to so many people who works hard, often for so little recognition. Our congratulations go not only to the worthy winners, but also to those who received nominations.

This year saw a dramatic increase in the number of entries received in all categories of the awards, which are open to women employed within the UK road haulage industry.

The call for entries into the Women in Transport Awards 2005 will be announced in May next year.
