After successfully evaluating an Iveco Eurocargo Urban Artic in its fleet of approximately 1,000 commercial vehicles, Britain's largest independent drinks logistics provider has taken delivery of a fleet of 26 additional vehicles to allow monitoring at a larger number of sites.
Tradeteam Ltd, an Exel company, is using the Eurocargo 230E24T/P 4X2 Urban Artics in conjunction with ultra-low deck trailers, making them ideal for operations in the brewery trade.
Plated to operate at up to 23 tonnes, with a wheelbase of just 2,632 mm, each of the Eurocargo Urban Artics have a low fifth wheel height of 1,043 mm when unladen.
“Early feedback from drivers who trialled the Eurocargo was very positive indeed,” says Nigel Bailey, Engineering Operations Manager, Exel, “which led us to carry out a much more extensive series of trials.
“The Eurocargo Urban Artics fit well with our requirement for a highly manoeuvrable tractor unit which makes getting access to restricted urban locations such as high street pubs and clubs, that much easier,” he adds.
Supplied by Blackwell-based Sherwood Commercials, the vehicles are powered by a 5.9 litre Iveco tector engine, which is capable of producing up to 240 hp at 2,700 rev/min and 810 Nm of torque between 1,250 and 2,100 rev/min. The engine is driven through a six-speed Eaton 5206B gearbox, which is noted for its straightforward gear selection.
The Eurocargos will be in operation five days a week and are expected to cover up to 32,000 miles a year.
With over 3,000 configurations possible from the 300 basic models, the Eurocargo Urban Artic is just one vehicle in a comprehensive line-up of medium weight trucks that can be mission-matched to all types of applications.
