August 2004Iveco is sponsoring the UK’s most prestigious new initiative for arts, science and nature with the supply of an Iveco Daily van equipped with a compressed natural gas (CNG) powered engine.
Gunpowder Park, located within the Lee Valley Regional Park, which lies to the north of Greater London, is using a 3.5 tonne Daily CNG throughout its 255 acres of regenerated green space which comprises wildflower meadows, woodlands, an arable farm and nature reserve land.
Closed to the public for 100 years, a multi million pound investment project has transformed the site from its former use as a munitions factory into unique parkland which was opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in June 2004. This new attraction provides opportunities for thought, creativity and interaction among visual and performing artists, scientists, ecologists, schools, colleges, universities, industry and the public.
“The Daily CNG represents a tried and tested solution for low pollution transport, which made it the natural choice of vehicle for operation within Gunpowder Park,” says Ken Moore, Iveco’s Technical Director.
“Powered by the best environmentally usable fuel readily available across the UK, the Daily CNG is so clean and environmentally friendly that it is already certified to the same exhaust tailpipe emissions standards to which diesels will aspire in 2009,” he adds.
In addition to being used as a working vehicle in the park, Iveco is helping to develop an outreach programme for schools which will see the Daily CNG travel across the region being used as an interactive exhibition to encourage awareness of environmental issues through arts led activities.
